What to Pack for a Summer Holiday in the Autumn

Holidays in the autumn are amazing for extending your summer, avoiding that pull of winter rain and cold that September brings with it, yet they can be a pain when deciding what to pack. I was recently in Spain for a little pre winter getaway and want to share with you my guide to help you decide what to pack for a summer holiday in the autumn.

My best advice, and what I find helps make it so much easier, is to pick a colour scheme. It’s become a holiday tradition for me and my mum to decide on our wardrobe colour schemes pre holiday and it honestly really helps when packing. For this trip, my holiday wardrobe was made up of a combination of rusts and pistachios, all topped off with a dash of ecru – the perfect summer-autumn transitional colours.

I just couldn’t bring myself to be wearing my usual bright, summer colours for this holiday – it just didn’t feel right! So I opted for more muted shades, yet still bold in their own rights. Rich rust accessories to complement a soft pistachio top whilst the ecru skirt adds a dash of summer without the brightness of full white.

Equally, I think textures are so important when packing for a summer holiday in the autumn. For me, autumn dressing is all about texture – fur, leather, you name it. So naturally I incorporated textures into my autumnal summer holiday wardrobe! These tasselled sandals were the perfect way to do that.

The utility trend of summer was also a great summer-autumn transition trend and this Topshop Ecru Playsuit (a summer favourite from the high-street store as part of their Topshop loves campaign), was the perfect piece to wear for an evening out. The thicker material was ideal for the cooler evenings that came alongside a summer holiday in the autumn whilst it’s utility vibe kept it bang on trend.

Finally, when it comes to midi skirts, I’ve been having an absolute moment which has lasted the whole year so naturally I brought one on my summer holiday in the autumn. Again, another great transitional piece in a lovely burnt rust colour. Paired with a simple white crop t-shirt and white sandals, I added a splash of summer with this gorgeous Amalfi print trunk from Accessorize.
