Dolce & Gabbana Tropico Italiano

Is there anything that screams Italian more than Dolce & Gabbana at the moment? I think not. I mean, how could anything possibly compete with pasta print motifs, gelato get-ups, and apron-inspired jute dresses? In true Italian style, every piece from the brand’s latest collection seems to be adorned with food or religious figures and, like everything else found in southern Italy and Sicily, completely in abundance.

A far cry from 2016 A/W offerings of their very own fairytale, this year the designers went back to their roots, creating a juxtaposing authentic yet imaginary Italian experience, fusing traditional Italian trattorias with the fantasy world of Italian Tropic depicting the Italian islands of Ischia, Pantelleria, Capri, and of course, Sicily.

Travel to the Italian Tropic, where everything Italian like pasta, bread, and superstitious symbols mix with an overall holiday mood punctuated by cocktails, ice creams, and sequins.

Stealing the show last season were heavily embroidered matador jackets, elaborate baroque headwear and chiffon cocktail dresses decorated with an array of quintessentially Italian iconography. The collection once again saw the classic Dolce black lace featured, reminiscent of traditional Italian mourning dress.

Even the brand’s Instagram account provides something extra special for its followers. Several recent posts have focused on model Chiara Scelsi’s journey to Napoli, making pasta, pizza, gelato, and cocktails with local artisans, giving anyone the chance to experience la vera Italia.

I’ll definitely be keeping my eyes peeled for some D&G-inspired dupes this coming S/S ’17 season. What have been your favourite looks from Dolce & Gabbana’s Tropico Italiano? Have you seen any high street imitations already? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
