Trend Alert: Ice Cream Pastels

runway, spring summer fashion, pastelsThe second of my Trend Alerts posts (you can read the first here) and this may come as no surprise, but pastels are going to be big again for S/S’18. Although the trend may sound completely predictable to some, I dread the day when pastels are no longer a spring/summer staple. Personally I love picking every pastel colour out of my wardrobe and dressing myself up to look like a gelato.

The runways ran awash with pastels last September with Victoria Beckham, Chanel and Tom Ford all jumping on board. Pistachio greens, sorbet lemons and parma violets all looked good enough to eat. Styling took two different routes this season: the classic saccharine take on the trend was still ever present with Sies Marjan’s collection whilst others took a more bittersweet direction. Calvin Klein span a horror twist on their baby blue anoraks (see the full collection here) whilst Helmut Lang preferred to incorporate gelato hues into the domain of fetishwear.

For me, pastels are the kind of hue which look great with any skin tone. They’re also the kind of shades which look great as a block or a splash of colour. So whether it’s full pastel co-ords or subtle earrings, there’s a way for everyone to channel the trend this season. As always, I’m sharing some of my top high-street picks below!

What’s your favourite trend this spring/summer? Are you as much of a pastels lover as I am? I’d love to hear your thoughts below!
